GEORGETOWN, Texas – The Tiger men's and men's track & field teams are both leading after the opening day of action at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships in Georgetown, Texas.

Trinity's women scored 136 points and lead second-place Colorado College by nearly 40 points, followed by hosting Southwestern University in third, and Texas Lutheran University in fourth. The Tiger men finished with 142 points scored after the first day, nearly 30 points better than Texas Lutheran in second. Colorado College is third, followed by St. Thomas, Southwestern, and Centenary.

Saturday's results yielded 22 All-SCAC performances by the men and women, as well as nine total individual SCAC Champions. Kierra Francois (Angleton, Texas / Angleton) won both the hammer throw and the javelin throw, breaking her own school record in the hammer and setting a new personal-best in the javelin. Francois won the hammer with a throw of 50.85 meters to beat her previous best by nearly six meters. She had a throw of 36.46 meters to win the javelin event with a new PR that remains sixth in school history.

Cooper Tyler (Austin, Texas / Anderson) won the men's javelin with a huge PR that moved him from seventh to third all-time at Trinity. He surpassed his previous best by more than three meters in today's event. Pierce Jackson (Addison, Texas / Dallas Jesuit) finished third for the second straight season, though he set a new PR with a throw of 53.58 meters that moves him into the top 10 in school history.

In addition to sweeping the gold in the javelin, Trinity also won both the men's and women's 3,000-meter steeplechase and the long jump. Diego Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Monte Vista North) won the men's steeple for the second straight year with a time of 9:46.10, while Ellie Catron (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands Christian Academy) won for the second time in three years with a time of 11:34.44. Areola jumped a Trinity season-best 5.35 meters to win this year's event, while Hampton set a new PR by 0.01 meters with a mark of 7.22 meters that keeps him fourth in school history.

Rounding out the Tiger individual winners were Justin Johnson (Houston, Texas / Manvel) in the 400-meter hurdles and Madeline Wietstruck (Houston, Texas / Northland Christian) in the pole vault. Johnson won the hurdles even in 54.09 seconds, which is a new PR that moves him from seventh to fourth on Trinity's all-time list. Wietstruck is also now alone in fourth in Trinity's record book, vaulting 3.33 meters to win the SCAC title today. In addition to winning the pole vault, she was also the runner-up in the long jump with a leap of 5.31 meters that is a new PR and is in the top 10 in school history.
