Azusa, Calif. – Trinity sophomore
Will Salony (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) and junior
Diego Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Monte Vista North) both competed at the APU Franson Last Chance Meet on Saturday night, aiming to improve their times to qualify for the NCAA Championships.
Flores finished 18th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:27.51, which is his second-best career time. His time of 9:19.15 at last weekend's Oxy Invitational is second in school history and has him ranked in the top 50 nationally heading into the weekend.
Salony broke his own school record in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 3:48.44 tonight, which had him 13th in the final results tonight. He also moves up to 26th in NCAA III with that time, which also marks the second time in as many weeks that he broke the record. Salony's record coming into this year was set during the same meet at Azusa Pacific University last year, but he has now eclipsed that mark by nearly four seconds.
Trinity will host a Last Chance Meet of its own tomorrow at the Trinity Multi-Purpose Stadium. Field events are scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m., while running events will start at 5:00 p.m.
