ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Trinity sophomore
Azariah Anderson (Saint Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell North) wound up ninth in the prelims of the 110-meter hurdles at the NCAA III Outdoor Track & Field Championships on Friday afternoon.
Anderson ran in the third of three heats in today's event, finishing fourth in his heat with a time of 14.52 seconds, but just one spot away from qualifying for the finals. The finals were comprised of the winner from each heat, followed by the next five fastest times for a total of eight runners. Anderson missed a spot in the finals by just 0.02 seconds.
Coming into the competition, Anderson ranked fourth overall with his time of 14.19 seconds from earlier this season, which is the second-fastest time in school history and is just 0.03 seconds from the all-time Trinity record.
Senior
Casey Hampton (Houston, Texas / Westbury Christian) finished ninth in the long jump on Thursday, making it to the finals, but just missing on All-America honors granted to the top eight in each event. Hampton jumped 7.19 meters to reach the finals and that mark was his best of the day.
Trinity has had a member of the men's track & field team compete at nationals for seven straight seasons. This is the fourth straight year that the Tigers have had a competitor in the long jump, but Anderson is the first runner in the 110-hurdles since Cody Hall finished second in 2018.
