LOS ANGELES – The Trinity men's and women's track & field teams broke two school records and placed in the top 20 nationally in another event during the Oxy Invitational on Saturday, hosted by Occidental College.
Will Salony (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) broke his own school record in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:49.99 that is nearly four seconds better than his previous record set in March of last year. The 4x400-meter team of
Taylor Kotfas (Blanco, Texas / Blanco),
Sealan Ledat (Richardson, Texas / Richardson),
CC Gray (Scottsdale, Ariz. / Notre Dame Prep), and
Hayley Huck (Prosper, Texas / Prosper) finished second in tonight's race with a time of 3:56.04 that edged the Tiger record set in 2016 by just three-tenths of a second.
Joy Areola (Tomball, Texas / Rosehill Christian) was also second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.80 meters that is just 0.03 from her personal-best that she set in May of 2022. Tonight's mark places her 18th in NCAA III in the event heading into this weekend's action. She jumped past five meters in the long jump to finish 10th and was part of the 4x100-meter relay team that finished sixth. The relay team of
Avery Puig (Laredo, Texas / Alexander), Ledat, Areola, and
Danya Selber (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela) finished in 48.34 seconds to move up to fourth in school history with the season's best time.
The men's 4x400 relay was also second with a time of 3:16.40 that ranks fifth in school history and is also the best for the Tiger team this season. The relay consisted of
Grant Bishop (Geronimo, Texas / Navarro),
Ethan Gilmore (Houston, Texas / Lamar),
Justin Johnson (Houston, Texas / Manvel), and
Nicolas Ladreyt (Santa Monica, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake School). The men's 4x100-meter relay notched a second-place finish as well, as
Legend Grigsby (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek),
Azariah Anderson (Saint Charles, Mo. / Francis Howell North),
Brian Rainey (Cedar Hill, Texas / Cedar Hill), and Gilmore finished in 42.19 seconds on Saturday evening.
Diego Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Monte Vista North) broke his personal record with a time of 9:19.15 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at Occidental, earning ninth place in the meet, but moving up to second in school history. That time is just over eight seconds away from the school record set in 2013.
Madeline Wietstruck (Houston, Texas / Northland Christian) was sixth in the pole vault after clearing 3.41 meters on Saturday, which is her personal record and puts her third all-time at Trinity.
In addition to running the anchor leg of the 4x100 relay, Selber also broke her personal record with a time of 25.71 seconds in the 200-meter dash, which puts her alone in fifth place all-time. Her previous best of 25.92 seconds was tied for the fifth-fastest time in school history.
Ryan Rager-Aguiar (Spring Hill, Tenn. / Independence) andÂ
Ryan Tresaugue (The Woodlands, Texas / The Woodlands) made the 1500 even more special for the Tigers as the duo also broke their personal records and moved into the top 10 in school history. Tresaugue finished in 3:57.71 to take over seventh all-time at Trinity, while Rager-Aguiar crossed the line in 3:59.04 to move into ninth place on the Tiger list.
In the final event of the evening,
Nathaniel Trevino (San Antonio, Texas / Central Catholic) smashed his personal record with a time of 15:16.32 that moves him in the top 10 in school history.
Cooper Tyler (Austin, Texas / Anderson) won the men's javelin with a throw of 54.91 meters, while teammate
Pierce Jackson (Addison, Texas / Dallas Jesuit) finished second with a throw of 53.18 meters on Saturday.
Casey Hampton (Houston, Texas / Westbury Christian) posted a mark of 7.12 meters in the long jump to earn fourth place.
Johnson added a bronze finish in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 54.75 seconds, while teammate
Kyle Anderson (Cave Creek, Ariz. / Cactus Shadows) was fourth in a time of 55.12 seconds.
Kierra Francois (Angleton, Texas / Angleton) was sixth in the hammer throw with a mark of 39.13 meters.
Up Next
The Trinity men's and women's teams will have another opportunity to improve their times and distances for NCAA Championships consideration, but this time it will come in one final home meet. The Trinity Last Chance Meet will be held on Sunday, May 14, and is the next to last meet scheduled before the NCAA event at the end of the month.
