No. 11 Tiger Men's Tennis will stay at home to compete in the ITA Southwest Regional Championship. The ITA Tournament will start on Thursday morning with the round of 64, and then run to the Sunday afternoon championships.
The tournament will be held at the newly renovated
Butch Newman Tennis Center on the campus of Trinity University. The ITA Tournament will feature the schools of Concordia University (TX), Hardin-Simmons University, Schreiner University, East Texas Baptist, Southwestern, and other Region X schools for a chance to win and move on to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia.
The Tigers had an excellent first showing at the Trinity Fall Invitational. Sophomore
Rafa Candelas (Zacatexas, Mexico / (American School (Spain)) was the singles champion for flight six, taking 3 out of 3 matches. First-year
Hai Vo (Binh Duong, Vietnam / Harvest Christian Academy (Texas)) would take the flight five championship, taking three wins of his own.
The Tigers will take on some tough competition during the tournament. Southwestern occupies the 15th spot nationally. Concordia University (TX) has the 27th-ranked singles player in Joshua Bode and the 21st-ranked doubles team with the duo of Bode and Adrian Munguina. Hardin-Simmons holds the 45th-ranked singles player in Bryce Bradshaw. The Tigers are no pushover though, being 11th ranked in the country.
Looking Ahead - ITA Cup
The Tigers will round out their fall schedule in Rome, Georgia from October 12th through October 15th to compete in the ITA Cup.
