No. 13 Tiger Men's Tennis gets ready for a three-match weekend at home and on the road as they take on Concordia, Hardin-Simmons, and Schreiner.
Â
The Tigers (0-2) dropped their first two matches against Tyler Junior College and Abilene Christian. Trinity was up against some tough competition as both schools were NCAA and NJCAA Division I. The only Tiger match that the Tigers won was the doubles team of
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) and
Eric Liao (Taipei, Taiwan / Boca Prep (Florida)). Trinity competed well against both opponents and has a good foundation of skills as they take on NCAA III opponents.

Preview - Triple Decker
Â
The Tigers will play their first match at
Butch Newman Tennis Center against Concordia (TX) on Friday, February 16th at 3:00 PM. They will then play a double-header on Saturday, February 17th starting at home against Hardin-Simmons at 10:00 AM. The team will then travel to Kerrville that same day to take on Schreiner at 5:00 PM.
Â
On the Concordia Tornadoes: The Tornadoes are 1-0 in the young season. Concordia picked up its first win by sweeping Howard Payne 9-0. The Tornadoes dominated that match, only dropping one set and sweeping all but one match up. A Tiger and Tornado have met one time this year during the ITA regional. Concordia's Joshua Bode defeated Trinity's Locke by scores of 6-4 and 6-2. As a team, however, the Tigers are 7-0 against Concordia since 2016 and have swept more than have the matches.Â
Â
On the Hardin-Simmons Cowboys: The Cowboys start the season with an 0-2 record. Don't let that fool you, however, as HSU took on NCAA I Abilene Christian and NCAA II UT-Permian Basin. The top players for the Cowboys were closed but they were overpowered in their 3, 4, and 5 spots. Look for the Tigers to take advantage of those matchups with a strong middle of the lineup. Since 2010, Trinity is 14-0 against Hardin-Simmons and has not allowed the Cowboys to win more than three games.Â
Â
On the Schreiner Mountaineers: The Mountaineers also hold a 0-2 record in the 2024 spring season. Schreiner has dropped matches against Our Lady of the Lake and LeTourneu. SU played competitively against LeTourneau but was outmatched against Our Lady of the Lake, only winning more than two sets in one match. Trinity has dominated the Mountaineers, going 10-0 since 2010 and sweeping all competitions.
