Box Score NICHOLASVILLE, KENTUCKY - No. 14 Tiger Men's Tennis falls to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps 2-5 in the first round of the ITA Indoor National Championships.
The Tigers (2-3) started the tournament on a good note, taking all three doubles matches.
Eric Liao (Taipei, Taiwan / Boca Prep (Florida)) and
Aashish Dhanani (Austin, Texas / Westwood) took the #1 doubles by a score of 6-2 while
Rob Chang (Aiea, Hawaii / 'Iolani School) and
Dalton Locke scored a 7-6 win by narrowly taking the tiebreaker 7-5.
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and
Conor Kaczmarczyk (Aurora, Colorado / Regis Jesuit) rounded out the doubles competition with a dominating 6-1 win in the #3 doubles.
Jared Perry (Tucson, Arizona / Catalina Foothills) dropped the #1 singles match 6-4 and 6-2.
Rafa Candelas (Zacatexas, Mexico / American School (Spain)) fell in the #2 singles 6-4 and 6-0. The #3 and #4 singles would be the closest matches of the afternoon. Chang would fall in three sets but took the first 7-6 after winning the tiebreaker 7-5. He would then drop the next two sets 6-3 and 6-1.
Connor Whittington (Lake Oswego, Oregon / Lake Oswego) lost the first set 7-6 but then destroyed the next set 6-1. In the rubber match, Whittington would lose the set 6-2. For the #5 singles, Liao would be defeated by scores of 7-6 and 6-3.
Kaczmarczyk would be the lone Tiger to win a singles match. Although he would lose the first set, he came back with a vengeance and worked hard to win the next two sets 7-5.
