HOUSTON – Trinity University's track and field teams delivered strong performances at the FasTrak Athletix Collegiate Challenge on January 25, 2025, in Houston, Texas, with numerous athletes earning top 25 finishes across multiple events.
In the men's 60-meter preliminaries,
Orie Piken (Torrance, Calif. / West Torrance) led the Tigers with a 24th-place finish, clocking in at 7.11 seconds, while
Legend Grigsby (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek) followed closely, taking 29th with a time of 7.13 seconds. On the women's side,
Nia Scott (Dickinson, Texas / Dickinson) was the top performer for Trinity, finishing 20th with a time of 8.12 seconds, with
Danya Selber (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela) contributing a 31st-place finish at 8.27 seconds.
Piken continued to impress in the men's 200 meters, earning 17th place with a time of 22.59 seconds. Grigsby also secured a top 25 finish in the event, placing 24th with a time of 22.77 seconds, while
Ryan Forson ( / ) crossed the line in 23.16 seconds to finish 36th. In the women's 200 meters, Selber was Trinity's top competitor, finishing 30th in 27.05, and Scott was 39th in 27.56.
Price Schultea (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Christian) earned 10th place in the men's 400 with a time of 50.17 seconds, with
William Regen (Deer Park, Texas / Deer Park) coming in 28th at 52.82. For the Tiger women,
Lillian Broussard (Houston, Texas / National Christian) was the top finisher at 24th in 1:02.62.
In the men's 800 meters,
Sebastian Langer (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) led the Tigers, finishing 11th with a time of 1:59.50.
Jackson Gallagher (Ft. Worth, Texas / Southwest Christian) was also in the top 20 with a 17th-place finish in 2:01.45, while
Joseph Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) was one spot away from the top 25 with a time of 2:05.29 that left him 26th in the event. On the women's side,
Emerson Voldan (Arlington, Texas / Mansfield Summit) claimed 11th place as well, crossing the line in 2:21.89, and
Annette Smith (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) was 13th in 2:22.06.
Halle Hamilton ( / ) was 16th in 2:24.11 and
Carly Hunt (McKinney, Texas / Boyd) was 23rd to round out one of Trinity's strongest performances in middle-distance events.
Some of Trinity's best overall finishers came in the mile, led by
Thomas Melina-Raab (Austin, Texas / McCallum) and his time of 4:20.01 that was good for fourth place.
Jesus Rojas (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) and
Luke Whitfill (Overland Park, Kan. / The Barstow School) were also in the top 20 for the men, finishing 17th and 19th, respectively, with times of 4:38.77 and 4:41.48.
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) led the Tiger women with a ninth-place finish in a time of 5:05.71 that also puts her in the top 25 in Division III so far this season. Trinity had three total runners in the top 25 and two more in 26th and 27th.
Cali Good (Yucaipa, Calif. / Yucaipa) was 21st in 5:31.19 and
Esperanza Vazquez (Houston, Texas / Incarnate Word HS) was 24th with a time of 5:44.60.
Emily Gnecco (Livermore, Calif. / Livermore) and
Avery Hand ( / ) just missed the top 25 in 5:48.77 and 5:50.13.
Logan Nasky (Irving, Texas / MacArthur) paced Trinity's efforts in the men's 3,000 meters with a time of 8:56.80 and two others joined him in the top 25.
Nathaniel Trevino (San Antonio, Texas / Central Catholic) was 16th in 9:12.11 and
James Rush (Iola, Texas / The Kinkaid School) was just seconds behind in 19th and a time of 9:16.09. For the women,
Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) turned in a top 10 performance with a time of 10:28.19 that was sixth place and eight total women's runners were in the top 32.
Anne Snider (Waco, Texas / Live Oak Classical) was 15th in 11:02.42, while
Grace Etzel (Friendswood, Texas / Friendswood) finished 18th in 11:17.68.
Kate Boone (Temple, Texas / Holy Trinity Catholic) was just one spot back of Etzel with a time of 11:21.07, then both
Ellie Catron (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands Christian) and
Sydney Tucker (McKinney, Texas / Boyd) were 23rd and 24th, respectively.
Ellie Herrick (Corpus Christi, Texas / Tuloso Midway) was 29th and
Stephanie Suarez (Harlingen, Texas / Harlingen) finished 32nd.
The Tiger men's 4x400 meter relay team of
Kris Duggan (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson), Schultea, Regen, and Gallagher finished 11th with a time of 3:28.89. Trinity's women's team of Hamilton, Voldan, Broussard, and Smith matched their male counterparts with an 11th-place finish, clocking in at 4:08.79.
Trinity athletes also shined in the field events. Duggan was 11th in the men's high jump after clearing 1.85 meters on his second jump, while
Sophia Ortiz (Liberty Hill, Texas / Liberty Hill) was 17th for the Tiger women after leaping 1.50 meters.
Seth Jacobs (Santa Fe, Texas / Santa Fe) cleared 4.30 meters on his second attempt in the pole vault to earn 10th place. Tiger women
Kaelin Leishman (Wheaton, Ill. / Wheaton North) and
Addison Doss (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Preparatory Academy) finished in the top five in the pole vault after clearing 3.20 meters.
Andrew Mueller ( / ) was also 10th in the long jump with a leap of 6.25 meters, while
Aidan Yeatman ( / ) was 20th with a jump of 5.67 meters, and Piken reached 5.49 meters for 25th place. For the women,
Joy Areola (Tomball, Texas / Rosehill Christian School) was 11th with a jump of 5.25 meters, and
Maddie Wietstruck (Houston, Texas / Northland Christian) was 24th after reaching 4.53 meters, and
Emillie Mireles (Brownsville, Texas / Hanna Early College) was 27th with a mark of 4.28 meters.
Bocar Diagana (Edina, Minn. / Edina) earned one of the best men's finishes of the day in the triple jump, finishing sixth with a mark of 13.68 meters. Areola notched a top five performance on the women's side, reaching 11.45 meters on her second jump.
Ciandra Carrico (San Antonio, Texas / Johnson) was also in the top 10 with a mark of 10.52 meters.
The throwing events also saw notable finishes for Trinity.
Cole Noack ( / ) was 12th with a throw of 11.96 meters, as well as 11th in the weight throw after reaching 12.30 meters on his third throw of the day.
Aaron Chang (Fullerton, Calif. / Valley Christian) was 13th in the weight throw with a mark of 11.52 meters. For Trinity's women,
Kate Ballengee (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School) was 15th in the shot put with a final throw of 10.64 meters, while
Rachel Bell (Manvel, Texas / Lutheran South Academy) finished 25th with her 8.69-meter mark. Ballengee also reached 11.73 meters in the weight throw to finish in 14th place.
