New Opportunities Await Tigers at the ITA Southwest Regional Tournament
Â
Trinity Men's Tennis will host the ITA Southwest Regional Championship from Thursday October 2nd through Sunday, October 5th. After sweeping both singles and doubles last year, the Tigers return to defend their titles at home.Â
Â
Last year, the Tigers made history in Abeline after sweeping the titles for the first time since 2021. Â
Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connection Academy) had one of the most memorable singles in years. He battles through a three set marathon. Warren dropped the first set 6-4, and fought off his opponent, winning the second set tie break 22-20 to force a third set. He held off 11 total match points to win the championship 7-5 in the third set. In doubles,
Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and
Rocco Mendez (Las Vegas, Nevada / Odyssey Charter School) secured the doubles, rallying from a set down and sealing the match, 10-6 tie breaker.
Regionals are more than just bragging rights. The winners of singles and doubles advance to the ITA Cup, a national championship that will bring the best player from every region in Division III. Earning a spot at the Cup means competing on the biggest stage of the fall season and guarantees All-American honors. For Trinity, it is the chance to carry Tiger dominance from the Southwest onto the national stage.Â
Â
The Tigers return this fall as the team to beat. Warren will look to build on last year's success and solidify his place among the region's best. Kersten will aim for a repeat in doubles alongside 2-time All-American,
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills). The Tigers bring depth and experience across the tournament that will make them tough to beat.Â
Â
With Regionals back in San Antonio, the Tigers will look to use the home courts and familiar energy to their advantage. The path to the ITA Cup begins here, and Trinity is ready to defend its sweep.Â
