Preview - Tigers looking to conquer the 210 & 512

The Tigers aim to keep their perfect season intact as they host local Division 1 rivals Incarnate Word on Wednesday, February 12, at 5:30pm. The Tigers will then travel to Austin on Saturday to face Concordia at 2pm.

On the Incarnate Word Cardinals: The Cardinals are 0-2 so far this season, having faced tough Division 1 opposition, losing matches to the University of Arkansas and Oral Roberts. Last season, the Cardinals finished with a 19-5 overall record, qualifying for the Southland Conference Tournament. They were successful in the first round against Lamar but lost in the second round in a close contest against New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT). The Cardinals will look to avenge their early season woes as they make the short trip to Butch Newman Tennis Center on Wednesday, February 12th. The Cardinals will look to senior Emilio Vila to set the tone. Including both the fall and spring seasons, Vila holds a record of 4-5 in singles and an impressive 7-3 record in doubles. Last time out in the 2022-2023 season, Trinity was defeated by the Cardinals 4-1, but since 2017, the Tiger's record vs the Cardinals is an even 2-2.

On the Concordia University Tornadoes: The Tornadoes started off their season 2-1, sweeping the University of Dallas and Austin College, while also being swept by Lewis & Clark. Last season, the Tornadoes won the American Southwest Conference for the second consecutive year. They continued their winning form with a win against No. 46 Luther College in the NCAA tournament before losing to No. 2 University of Chicago. The Tornadoes will rely on junior Steven Scholz to put points on the board. This spring season, Scholz holds a record of 2-1 in singles and 1-1 in doubles. Last time out, Trinity defeated Concordia 5-4 in an instant classic.

Looking Ahead

The Tigers will head to St. Peter, Minnesota, for the ITA Indoor National Championships scheduled for February 21-23.
