SAN ANTONIO — The Trinity University track & field team showed up strong on their home track to kick off the two-day Trinity Invitational. The team took full advantage of a sunny day in San Antonio with a new school record and multiple personal records across the board.
Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) kicked things off in a major way with a new school record of 5.98m for the win in the women's long jump, continuing her multiple school record-setting freshman season. The jump also moves her to second on this season's Division III outdoor list.
Andrew Mueller ( / ) set a personal record in the men's long jump with a leap of 6.63m to take fourth place.
Addison Doss (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Preparatory Academy) and
Victoria Baker (San Antonio, Texas / Alamo Heights) took fourth and fifth in the women's pole vault, both clearing a height of 3.33m.
Seth Jacobs came first for Trinity in the men's pole vault, clearing 3.98m.
Kate Ballengee (Albuquerque, N.M. / Bosque School) led the way for the Tigers in the women's shot put, throwing 10.82m for 17th place.
Aaron Chang (Fullerton, Calif. / Valley Christian) took 9th in the men's shot put with a throw of 13.24m.
On the track, the women's 5000-meter saw
Allison Fortman (McKinney, Texas / Boyd) take second place in a personal record of 18:14.84. She was followed in third place by
Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics), who set a new personal record in her outdoor 5000 debut of 18:28.05. The Tigers defended the home track by rounding out the top 10 with seven of their own runners.
Dashiell Browne (Lantana, Texas / Guyer) set a new personal record in the men's 5000-meter, taking 6th in 15:57.44 for his first time under 16 minutes.
JT Ahmann (Austin, Texas / McNeil) followed close by, running 16:11.69 for 9th.
The men's 10000-meter wrapped things up on the track for the night, as
Nico Lopez (Buda, Texas / Johnson) took fourth place in his 10000 debut in 34:50.54.
Luke Whitfill (Overland Park, Kan. / The Barstow School) also set a personal record, doing so by more than two minutes, taking seventh in 35:07.25.
The Tigers are back at it tomorrow on the home track for day two of the Trinity Invitational.
