Eight Trinity Track & Field Athletes Qualify for NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The Trinity University men's and women's track & field teams will send eight student-athletes to the NCAA III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, as announced by the NCAA this evening.

The Tigers qualified for nationals in the men's 4x100-meter relay, the women's 100-meter hurdles, the women's long jump, and both the men's and women's triple jump. Half of the Trinity contingent made it to the NCAA III Championships for the second straight year, while the other half will be competing for the first time at the national meet.

Senior Joy Areola (Tomball, Texas / Rosehill Christian) is back for the second straight year in the women's triple jump. She leapt 12.08 meters at the Trinity Last Chance Meet to move up to 11th in the nation and qualify for nationals. Areola earned Second Team All-America honors last year by finishing 13th in the triple jump with a mark of 11.78 meters. She broke the school record with a jump of 12.20 meters last season and is one of only two Tigers in school history to jump over 12 meters in the event.

Also in the triple jump will be junior and first-time NCAA competitor Bocar Diagana (Edina, Minn. / Edina). Diagana qualified by breaking the Trinity school record with a jump of 14.80 meters at the Trinity Last Chance Meet less than a week ago. He broke his personal record at the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at the end of April with a mark of 4.27, then eclipsed that with a 4.30-meter jump at the Cameron Burrell Invitational the next week. Diagana's qualifying jump put him safely in at 15th nationally.

The men's 4x100-meter relay team has three second-time qualifiers for the NCAA III Championships, as well as a first-time selection that has helped the team break the school record. Senior Legend Grigsby (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek), junior Orie Piken (Torrance, Calif. / West Torrance), and sophomore Price Schultea (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Christian) are all back from last year's team that 13th at the NCAA event. They are joined this year by senior Nicolas Ladreyt (Santa Monica, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake School), and the 2025 version of the team qualified by running a school-record-breaking time of 40.76 seconds at the Augustana Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier this week. The Tiger team was the final team to make it to the 16-team field.

The final two qualifiers are both new to the NCAA III Championships, but both were the highest-ranked Trinity competitors nationally this season. Senior Danya Selber (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela) will race in the women's 100-meter hurdles and first-year Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) will compete in the women's long jump.

Selber has broken the Tiger record in the 100 hurdles five different times this year, topped off by her 13.96-second race in this year's SCAC Championships that landed her fifth nationally in the event. She has run sub-15.00 seconds on six different occasions in 2025 and is one of only two Trinity runners to ever run that fast in the event.

Lanik made a huge splash in her first season with the track & field team, following her successful fall season with the Trinity volleyball team. All she did in her first event of the year was break the school record in the long jump with a mark of 5.78 meters. Lanik has leapt past that distance twice more this season, highlighted by her 5.98-meter jump at the Trinity Invitational that has qualified as eighth in Division III this season.
