Women's Track & Field Wins SAA Indoors, Men Finish Second

DANVILLE, Ky. – Day two of the SAA Indoor Championships came down to the wire for the Trinity women's track and field team. Entering this weekend as the underdogs to the defending back-to-back champions, Centre College, the point tallies were all tied up at 50 after day one. The Tigers found themselves up just 2.5 after a huge performance in the mile, before the advantage swung back towards the host Colonels to the tune of 18.5 points.

After slowly closing the gap all day and grabbing a 4.5-point advantage after a big showing in the 3,000-meter, it all came down to the last event of the day: the 4x400-meter. In a heat of four teams, the Tigers could stand to get third but would have lost with a fourth-place finish. All of Danville seemed to crowd around the oval, screaming the baton around the track. All four teams remained close through the first two runners, until Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's), already with three medals on the weekend, put a huge gap on fourth-place Oglethorpe University to all-but secure the conference win. Halle Hamilton (Craig, Colo. / Moffat County) fought through the last leg and, as she crossed the finish line in third, secured the Tigers' first ever SAA track and field title and the first indoor championship in school history.

After a strong meet from the Trinity men, outperforming expectations but unable to make up the gap to defending champion Centre, the Tigers finished second, 65 points behind the Colonels.
