Boston, MASSACHUSETTS & Waverly, IOWA – This weekend was a mixed bag for the Trinity track and field team. It was a let down for most of the team, as lighting delays at the Central Texas Invitational forced a mid-meet cancellation that sent the buses home early. Having completed less than the minimum threshold of 10 events for the meet to be scored, the few events that were held will not be recorded as official results. Those traveling out of state this weekend put up solid marks that, while just missing nationals, put them in fantastic shape heading into outdoors.
Last Chance Meets
At the Wartburg Final Qualifier, Sophia Ortiz just short of a national qualifying mark in the women's high jump, clearing 1.63m before missing her three attempts at 1.68m, the height that would've pushed her into a tie for 14th and given her a bid to the NCAA DIII Indoor National Championships. Ortiz finishes the season tied for 30th in the nation with a PR of 1.65m, and will have much more to give this outdoor season.
The women's distance medley relay of Emerson Voldan, Isabella Gaylord, Halle Hamilton and Gianna Keena smashed the school record at the Tufts Final Qualifier with a time of 11:57.05. Their converted time of 11:49.45 will rank them 27th in the nation at season's end. Eight times in front of them were run by B or C teams, however, giving Trinity the 19th fastest women's DMR nationally.
Looking Ahead
Indoor Nationals, held in Birmingham, Alabama on Mar. 15, will play host to two Trinity jumpers. Annabelle Lanik will compete in the women's long jump after ending the season in fifth with her jump of 5.91m. After finishing third in long jump at last spring's Outdoor Nationals, this will be her first trip indoors, and she'll be competing for a podium spot once again. Bocar Diagana will compete in the men's triple jump after finishing the season tied for 16th with his mark of 14.69m. This will also be his first Indoor Nationals after finishing 16th at Outdoor Nationals in the fall.
