GEORGETOWN, TEXAS - Trinity Softball takes two from Southwestern in Friday doubleheader.
The Tigers (20-7-1) picked up win number 20 on the season and are currently the winners of four-straight games. Josephine Koelewyn (Reno, Nevada / Academy For Arts Careers and Technology) cashed in with two wins in the circle today, totaling six innings pitched. Koelewyn also got it done at the plate with four hits, a home run, and five RBIs. Megan Kriechbaum (Cedar Hills, Utah / Pleasant Grove) picked up the save in game one and then went four innings in game two. Mariana Garcia (Goodyear, Arizona / Canyon View) kept her hot streak going as she went 5-8 with two doubles.Â
Game One - Trinity 8, Southwestern 3
Trinity opened the game with a quick spark in the first inning when Hannah Boudreaux (Pearland, Texas / Shadow Creek) led off with a solo shot to left field for a 1-0 lead. Angela Baltzell (Antioch, California / Freedom) followed with a single, and Carsyn Lee (Flower Mound, Texas / Flower Mound) later moved into scoring position, but the Tigers settled for the one run.
Southwestern answered with a run in the bottom of the second to even the score at 1-1.
Trinity broke the game open in the third inning with four runs. Boudreaux walked, then Baltzell added to the rally with a bunt single, and Samantha Tagawa (Agoura Hills, California / Agoura) followed with a hit to put runners on. Josephine Koelewyn singled to score one and Hayden Del Toro (Cypress, Texas / Cy Woods) brought in one more. Jordan Arce (Thousand Oaks, California / Thousand Oaks) capped the surge with a two run-scoring single as Trinity moved in front 5-1.
The Tigers added another run in the fourth. Samantha Tagawa reached with a two-out single, Josephine Koelewyn doubled to right field to bring Tagawa home and make it 6-1.
Southwestern pushed across two runs in the bottom of the fourth, trimming the lead to 6-3.
Neither team scored in the fifth or sixth, and Trinity added insurance in the seventh. Hayden Del Toro singled and Mariana Garcia doubled to put two runners in scoring position. Hannah Boudreaux then drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to center, and Angela Baltzell added an RBI on a fielder's choice, building the Trinity lead to 8-3.
Southwestern threatened in the bottom of the seventh, but Trinity closed the door with Megan Kriechbaum recording the final strikeout.
Game Two - Trinity 9, Southwestern 4
Southwestern scored once in the third and added two more in the fourth to take a 3-0 lead before Trinity answered.
After four scoreless innings from the Tigers, Trinity erupted for six runs in the fifth. Mariana Garcia started the rally with a double, and after Kayci Menchaca (Falfurrias, Texas / Falfurrias) came on to run, Hannah Boudreaux lined a single to right that brought home the first run of the inning. Angela Baltzell followed with a sacrifice fly to score another, and Carsyn Lee added an RBI single to left center to push the lead to 3-3. Samantha Tagawa kept the inning going with a single, and Josephine Koelewyn delivered the biggest swing of the day with a three-run homer to left field that scored Tagawa and Lee and put Trinity in front 6-3.
The Tigers added to the cushion in the sixth. Hannah Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Taft) singled to open the inning, and Jordan Arce entered as a pinch runner and stole second. Ella Whitacre (Roanoke, Texas / Byron Nelson) later singled to move Arce to third, and Arce came home on an error during a steal attempt. Hannah Boudreaux then grounded out to second to bring in Whitacre and extend the lead to 8-3.
Trinity added one more run in the seventh with two outs. Hannah Flores singled, Mariana Garcia followed with a base hit, and Ella Whitacre burned the outfielders as she doubled to left center to score Flores for the Tigers' final run.
Southwestern added a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Trinity closed out the game from there.
