SAN ANTONIO – Trinity University Men's Tennis returns to the ITA Southwest Regional Championships this week, with the Tigers set to begin competition Thursday, October 1.
Singles play will open the tournament at 8:00 a.m. Thursday, followed by doubles at 3:00 p.m. Trinity enters the tournament with several returning regional finalists and a strong group of decorated veterans looking to continue the program's success at the championships.
Last season, the Tigers swept both the singles and doubles titles in all-Trinity finals.
Kishan Kersten (Plano, Texas / West) and
Jared Perry (Tucson, Ariz. / Catalina Foothills) met in the singles championship after entering the tournament as the No. 2 and No. 1 seeds, respectively. Kersten rallied after dropping the opening set 6-4, winning the second set 6-1 before closing out the championship with a 6-4 third-set victory.
The two also teamed up in doubles, reaching the championship match as the No. 2 seed. However,
Ethan Flores (Houston, Texas / Clear Lake) and
Roshin Kamath (League City, Texas / Clear Springs) captured the doubles title after upsetting their teammates 7-5, 7-6 (10-8) in a tightly contested final.
This year's field brings back many of the same players who made last year's run possible, giving Trinity another opportunity to compete for both regional championships.
Top-seeded
Kersten leads the Tigers in the singles draw after an outstanding 2025-26 season. Kersten was named SAA Player of the Year while earning First Team All-SAA honors in both singles and doubles. After winning the ITA Southwest Regional singles championship last season, Kersten returns as the No. 1 seed looking to defend his regional title.
Second-seeded
Perry also returns after reaching the singles final last season. Perry earned First Team All-SAA honors in both singles and doubles and will look to make another deep run in the singles draw.
Third-seeded
Ryan Warren (Keller, Texas / Connections Academy) rounds out Trinity's top three seeds in singles. Warren enters the tournament as a former champion in 2024. He is following a strong season in which he was a consistent presence in the Tigers' singles lineup.
The doubles draw will feature another familiar combination at the top, with Kersten and Perry entering as the No. 1 seed. The pair reached last year's doubles final and will look to finish the job this time around.
Second-seeded Flores and Kamath also return as a proven doubles team. After upsetting their teammates to win last year's regional championship, the duo enters this year's tournament with additional postseason experience. Flores and Kamath earned Second Team All-SAA honors in doubles last season.
With both of last year's singles finalists and the defending doubles champions returning, Trinity enters the regional championships with plenty of experience throughout the draw. The Tigers will look to use that experience to make another run at the singles and doubles titles when competition begins Thursday morning.
Looking Ahead – ITA Cup
The winners of the ITA Southwest Regional singles and doubles championships will advance to the ITA Cup in Rome, Georgia, where they will compete against regional champions from across the country.
