Box Score La Crosse, Wisconsin - Trinity Tigers
Justin Campbell and Vanessa Moreno competed in the NCAA Division
III Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championships
Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, and both
finished in the top 20 in their respective events.
Campbell (Victoria, TX/Memorial), a recent Trinity graduate,
placed 13th (of 20 competitors) in the men's discus event, with a
throw of 49.14 meters (161-03). Moreno (El Paso, TX/Horizon) was
18th in the women's 10,000 meters. She ran the event in
37:41.52.
In 2009, Campbell earned All-America honors with a third-place
NCAA finish (50.18 meters, 164.58 feet) in the discus. He was
Trinity's top men's points earner at last month's Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference Track & Field Championships. In
addition to the discus title, Campbell won the hammer throw and
shot put for the conference champion Tigers, who hosted the
meet.
Moreno was instrumental in helping the Tiger women
capture the SCAC Track and Field champions, by winning the
1,500 and 5,000 meter events. Last fall, Moreno won the SCAC
Women's Cross Country Championship, and was named conference Cross
Country Runner of the Year. Trinity's men and women won their
first-ever cross country team titles, and advanced to the
NCAAs.
Junior George Warren (Georgetown, TX./Georgetown) will represent
Trinity in Friday's men's high jump competition. Warren won the
SCAC high jump title, with a mark of 2.00 meters (6.56 feet), and
was a member of the champion 4x400-meter relay team.
The Trinity coaches were named the SCAC Track and Field Staff of
the Year. Both Tiger teams are led by first year Head Coach Marcus
Whitehead. Other members of the coaching staff are Derick Lawrence
(also head men's and women's cross country coach), Thomas Dimitri,
Emily Daum, Joe Meno, Greg Roberts, and Todd Wildman.
The Tiger men's and women's teams won the SCAC Championships by
record margins (136.5 points and 277 points, respectively).
