Box Score

San Antonio - The Trinity Tigers collected several top postseason track and field awards from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Trinity's coaching staff was named the SCAC Men's Track and Field Staff of the Year. Senior Will Paulus was selected as the SCAC Men's Track Athlete of the Year, and first-year Stephen Mason was elected the SCAC Men's Track and Field Newcomer of the Year. Senior Kelsey Oelze was voted SCAC Women's Field Athlete of the Year.

Voting was conducted exclusively by conference track and field head coaches.

Head Coach Marcus Whitehead and his staff guided the Tiger men to a second consecutive SCAC Championship. The Tigers, who have won nine total SCAC championships, captured the top position by a decisive 133-points margin of victory over second-place Southwestern University. The meet was held April 25-26 at the Trinity Track and Field Stadium. Greatly contributing to the Tigers' success were assistant coaches Derick Lawrence (also cross country coach), Emily Daum, and Thomas Dimitri.

Paulus won the 200 meters (22.06 seconds) and 400 meters (49.08 seconds), becoming the first male in conference history to capture both events. He now ranks fourth in the 200 and third in the 400 in the Trinity track and field history books. Paulus also was part of the champion 4x400-meter champion relay team.

Mason tied for SCAC Male Athlete of the Meet honors with 28 total points. At the SCAC Championship, Mason brought home the medal in the discus (35.88 meters), and placed fourth in the javelin (37.22 meters). He was runner-up in the shot put (11.53 meters), and took third place in the hammer throw (31.94 meters).

Oelze tied for second place for SCAC Female Track and Field Athlete of the Meet accolades with 28 points. The stalwart Oelze repeated as javelin champion (36.31 meters), finished as runner-up in the shot put (11.63 meters), placed third in the discus (33.35 meters), and was a fourth-place finisher in the hammer throw (31.93 meters). The Tiger women placed second in the team competition to Texas Lutheran University, by a scant 26 points.

Members of the Tiger teams are competing this weekend at the Dr. Keeler Invitational at Naperville, Illinois. The NCAA Division III Championships will be held May 22-24 at Delaware, Ohio, with bids to be announced May 18.
