School Records Fall in Track & Field's Final Push for Nationals

ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — The Trinity track & field team traveled to Augustana College today for the Midwest Twilight Final Qualifier. In the team's final meet of the qualifying window for NCAA Division III Nationals, the Tigers left it all on the track and left with some new school records to show for it.

Relays
The first school record of the day was taken down by the men's 4x100-meter relay squad of Legend Grigsby (Houston, Texas / Cypress Creek), Orie Piken (Torrance, Calif. / West Torrance), Nicolas Ladreyt (Santa Monica, Calif. / Harvard-Westlake School) and Price Schultea (Cypress, Texas / Cypress Christian). Taking third in 40.76, the Tigers are now ranked 12th on the Division III list and will hope that after tomorrow, the final day of the qualifying window, they remain one of the top 16 teams in the nation, earning a bid to nationals.

Hours later, another school record went down in the men's 4x400-meter relay by Ladreyt, Ryan Forson ( / ), Jackson Gallagher (Ft. Worth, Texas / Southwest Christian) and Schultea. Taking 11th in 3:12.46 to crush the old record by over two seconds, the Tigers find themselves ranked 18th nationally, just outside the 16 teams heading to nationals.

Sprints
In the men's 100-meter, Grigsby finished 21st in the prelims in a time of 10.87. While still waiting hopefully for the men's 4x100-meter relay, Grigsby will graduate as the school record holder in the men's 100-meter at 10.66. In the women's 100-meter, Nia Scott (Dickinson, Texas / Dickinson) finished 15th in the prelims in 12.58.

In the men's 200-meter, Schultea finished tenth in 21.42, a time that would have been under the school record if he had not lowered it to 21.26 just this past Sunday. In the women's 200-meter, Scott finished 24th in 26.07.

Ladreyt ran a PR of 48.16 in the men's 400-meter to take fifth, improving on his fourth place ranking in school history.

Mid-Distance
In the men's 800-meter, Ryan Tresaugue (Spring, Texas / The Woodlands) finished third in 1:51.49, just missing his PR of 1:51.07 set in California just this past weekend. Tresaugue will graduate as Trinity's second fastest runner ever in the event.

In the women's 800-meter, Halle Hamilton ( / ) finished 23rd in 2:16.63 after running nearly the same time just this past Sunday. Annette Smith (Houston, Texas / Ridge Point) finished 27th in 2:19.03.

In the men's 1,500-meter, Thomas Melina Raab (Austin, Texas / McCallum) finished fourth in 3:51.51. Will Salony (Dallas, Texas / JJ Pearce) finished 12th in 3:54.10, graduating as the school record holder at 3:47.56.

In the women's 1,500-meter, Emerson Voldan (Arlington, Texas / Mansfield Summit) finished 15th in 4:45.17. Josette Gurule (Santa Fe, N.M. / Academy for Technology and the Classics) finished 19th in 4:52.92.

In the men's 3,000-meter steeplechase, Diego Flores (San Antonio, Texas / Great Hearts Monte Vista North) finished 21st in 9:35.25. Flores graduates as the school record holder at 9:06.77.

Distance
In the men's 5,000-meter, Nathaniel Trevino (San Antonio, Texas / Central Catholic) finished 14th in 15:57.43. In the women's 5,000-meter, the Tigers finished third, fourth and fifth, led by Anne Snider (Waco, Texas / Live Oak Classical) in third in 18:18.43. Voldan doubled back to take fourth in 18:33.25 and Gianna Keena (Lakeway, Texas / Lake Travis) took fifth in 18:36.97.

Jumps
Andrew Mueller ( / ) took sixth in the men's high jump in 1.92m.

Addison Doss (Sugar Land, Texas / Logos Preparatory Academy) took sixth in the women's pole vault in 3.41m.

Mueller took ninth in the men's long jump in a PR of 6.68m. Joy Areola (Tomball, Texas / Rosehill Christian) took ninth in the women's long jump in 5.40m.

Areola took third in the women's triple jump in 12.00m. Coming into the meet tied for 11th nationally, she will almost certainly earn a bid to nationals. While she'll get another chance to jump further in her final nationals meet, Areola will graduate as the school record holder at 12.20m.

Throws
Pierce Jackson (Addison, Texas / Dallas Jesuit) finished fifth in the men's javelin throw in 54.51m. He will graduate with the second farthest throw in school history at 60.02m.

Looking Ahead
The Tigers will now gear up to take on NCAA Division III Nationals at SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio from May 22-May 25. Four athletes have all but secured nationals bids: Danya Selber (Edinburg, Texas / Robert Vela) in the women's 100-meter hurdles at 13.96, Annabelle Lanik (Sugar Land, Texas / St. John's) in the women's long jump at 5.98m, Bocar Diagana (Edina, Minn. / Edina) in the men's triple jump at 14.80m and Areola in the women's triple jump at 12.05m. The men's 4x100-meter relay will be glued to their screens during tomorrow's final meets, hoping to remain in the top 16 nationally.
